Jason Brown speaking at Pubcon

Hi, I am Jason Brown. I am have been working in SEO for over 15 years. I got my start in digital marketing as a project manager. My first job was coordinating content requests between our client and our team of writers. I quickly started managing web design and local SEO campaigns. I spent three and a half years working at Over The Top Marketing, where I handled the local SEO for four nationwide franchises.

While working for Over The Top Marketing, I started my side project, Review Fraud. I quickly became an expert on online reviews. I was featured by CNBC, The Today Show, and various NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox news stations. I also started volunteering my time on the Google My Business (GMB) Community Forum. In October 2017, I entered the Top Contributor program as a Silver Top Contributor. Less than a year later, I became a Gold TC. Once you become Gold, you get to sign an NDA with Google. I get to have regular meetings with the GMB team. The program is now The Product Experts. In 2020, I was award Platinum status for my activity and mentorship. There is only one level left, and that is diamond level.

During my time of being a TC/ PE, I started focusing my time and energy on battling fake maps (GMB) listings. I am a level 8 local guide with over 8500 published map edits. I regularly speak at Pubcon. I have appeared on various podcasts and webinars. I am currently a guest on the weekly Local Marketing Connect Q&A series. I have written for SEMrush and Brightlocal. I have amassed several nicknames along the way, The Spam-man, magician platinum product expert, and The Unofficial Sherrif of Google. My colleagues love and respect me, while the spammers curse my name. I even had a spammer attempt to pay me to go away.

I have a passion for SEO, consumer advocacy, music, movies, and the Dodgers. In my free, I fight map spam fight, skateboard, or smoking something on my Traeger. My motto is: “Leave the world better than you found it.” I genuinely believe that one person can make a difference, and all we have to do is try.
